Remote, Agile Development

Over five years successfully working remote and agile.
I am a low-maintenance, highly motivated, self-directed developer. All projects in my portfolio were completed from my dedicated home office as a remote, solo developer or as a member of a small remote team. Several are BDD projects with daily stand ups, paired programming, and short iterations.

Proven Professional Track Record

Experience in projects of all sizes, duration, and stages.
Demonstrating motivation and self-direction, I have personally launched three commercial web applications. I have also been a member of three other distributed, remote development teams producing Software as a Service products.

Ability to Pick Up Existing Apps

Can easily onboard into existing Rails apps and teams.
I design and develop new features, provide technical insight, and production support for practicalecommerce.com, picking up where another developer left off. I extended and transformed the platform in order to support a sister site, Ecommerce Devloper.

Strong Technical Skills

Including Ruby, Rails, and JavaScript.
With 20 years in IT, five+ years in full-time Rails design and development, and a masters degree in Information Systems, I bring a solid technical background to applications. Besides Rails and jQuery, my resume also includes most of the standards such as Java, ASP .NET, major RDBMs, and tools such as Git.

Small Team Experience

Comfortable on teams of all sizes.
All projects in my Rails portfolio represent teams between 1 and 6 developers. I find smaller teams more enjoyable, productive, focused and successful (when measured on time, budget, and customer satisfaction) than large teams such as I experienced in corporate IT.

Quality Work under Deadlines

Through communication and planning, I meet deadlines.
I have planning and productivity skills that allow me to reliably meet deadlines. As an extreme case, I participated in the 48-hour Rails Rumble in 2008 and 2009. AffiliApp.com is my Rails Rumble 2009 entry which is the recipient of the Ready to Earn exhibition award, recognizing AffiliApp for having "a clear business model that offers real value".

Zavers

Zavers is an online coupon site, connecting grocers and consumers. As part of a distributed 6 person Rails team with members across the country, we followed an agile development method including daily stand ups, pair programming, two-week iterations, task estimate methods, and test-driven development.
